サマーセミナーの内容

  夏季セミナーは、主に、3つの活動をします。一つは、第二言語習得で卒論や修論を書こうという人のためのセミナーです。今年はまだタイトルは最終的には決まっていませんが、これまでは、統計、データ収集法、理論の重要性などの話をしてきました。(今のところ、データの収集と分析についてやってほしいという声があるので、それも視野に入れて準備を進めます。参加者が確定したところで、もう一度、要望を聞きます。)2つ目の活動は、今、一線で研究をしている人の研究発表です。3つ目の活動は、学会で発表するほどの自身はないが、コメントをもらいたいという人(学生を含む)の発表です。この3つ目の発表は、例年、学生の卒論や修論に向けた研究の中間発表のようなものもあり、これまで発表した学生にはとてもいいフィードバックがもらえると好評です。そのほか、レクリエーションや懇親会もあります。今年は、場所が野尻湖なので、サイクリングをしたりボートに乗ったりする時間も取れると思います。

Meeting Description:

The Pacific Second Language Research Forum is a venue for data-based and
theoretical papers on areas of basic research in Second Language
Acquisition (SLA).

*First announcement*

We are pleased to announce that the 5th Pacific Second Language Research
Forum
will be held in Brisbane, Australia, July 4-6, 2006. The meeting is a venue
for
data-based and theoretical papers on Second Language Acquisition (SLA).
Topics
include, but are not limited to, SLA in instructed and naturalistic
settings;
the effects of second language (L2) instruction on the rate and route of L2
development; the role of individual differences (in e.g., aptitude, age,
personality, motivation) in SLA; competing models of SLA processes; SLA
theory
construction; the acquisition of L2 pragmatics; bilingualism; the influence
of
cognitive variables (e.g., memory and attention) on L2 learning and use;
the
assessment of L2 use and development; methodological issues in research
into L2
acquisition.

The meeting will feature international plenary speakers and invited
colloquia in
the areas of computer mediated SLA, interactionist accounts of SLA,
generative
approaches to SLA, processibility theory and pragmatics.

The Call for Papers will appear in June 2005.

PacSLRF06 is part of LINQ06, a series of linguistic and applied linguistic
events taking place in Queensland in July. Other meetings include the
annual
meetings of the Applied Linguistics Association of Australia (July 6-8)  
and the
Australian Linguistic Society (July 7-9, and the biennial Australian
Linguistic
Institute (July 10-14). All events will be held on the University of
Queensland
campus.

30th Boston University Conference on Language Development

The conference includes about 90 papers and 40 posters in such areas as
theoretical approaches to language acquisition, cross-cultural language
development, second language development, language disorders, and literacy
development.

The Boston University Conference on Language Development is pleased to announce
the topic of the lunch symposium for BUCLD 30 (November 4-6 at Boston University):

''Statistical Learning in Language Development: What is it, What is its
Potential, and What are its Limitations?''

The symposium speakers will be Jeff Elman (University of California at San
Diego), LouAnn Gerken (University of Arizona) and Mark Johnson (Brown University).

The conference will also include a keynote address by Janet Werker (''Speech
Perception and Language Acquisition: Comparing Monolingual and Bilingual
Infants'') and a plenary talk by Harald Clahsen (''Grammatical Processing in
First and Second Language Learners'').

The Third International Conference on Formal Linguistics and the Second
Yuelu Workshop on Language Acquisition will be held in conjunction during
September 23-25, 2005 at the Institute of Cognitive Science, Hunan University,
Changsha, China. Invited plenary speakers include:

            Rosalind Thornton (Macquarie University)
                        ''Bringing out hidden structure in child language''
            Stephen Crain (Macquarie University)
                        ''Bringing out hidden meaning in child language''
            Naoki Fukui (Sophia University)
                        ''Minimalism and Parameters''

SUBMISSIONS:

Papers on any topic in the following fields are welcome:

            1) Formal syntax, semantics and phonology
            2) Child language acquisition
            3) Language acquisition in unusual circumstances (including
               sign language, second language and language disorders)
            4) Language emergence and language change

Priority will be given to (i) papers that relate to current issues and
debates in linguistic theory; (ii) papers that address learnability issues; and
(iii) papers that integrate data from the languages of China with linguistic
theory and acquisition theory. Each paper will be allotted 20 minutes for
presentation and 5 minutes for discussion. Please limit abstracts to one page,
double-spaced, in 11-point font. An additional page may be used for references and tables.
Please submit your abstract in rtf, doc or pdf file. An online abstract
submission form and online submission procedures are available at

Meeting Description:

This conference is devoted specifically to exploring interfaces between SLA
research and second language instruction. Colloquia individual papers and
posters are therefore solicited which from a variety of perspectives
investigate SLA as it relates to various aspects of second language
instruction ranging from classroom practices to syllabus design material
development curriculum development policy making and assessment.



The Second Language Research Forum (SLRF) invites proposals for papers and
posters regarding theory and research in second language acquisition for
its annual conference to be held at Teachers College Columbia University
from October 7-9 2005. We solicit colloquia individual papers and poster
presentations relevant to the conference theme: ''SLA models and second
language instruction: Broadening the scope of inquiry.'' We welcome
submissions from a variety of perspectives which investigate SLA as it
relates to various aspects of second language instruction ranging from
classroom practices to syllabus design material development curriculum
development policy making and assessment.

Submitters should specify one of the general research strands below under
which they wish their proposal to be evaluated.

General submission strands:

-Biological processes and effects
-Cognitive processes and effects
-Neurological processes and effects
-Developmental sequences
-Environmental influences
-Socio-cultural influences
-Linguistic analyses
-Pragmatic analyses
-Individual differences
-Research methodology
-Use of learner-corpora
-Evaluation assessment and testing

Proposals will be accepted for the following formats:

-Paper Presentations: 30 minutes long with a 10-minute discussion period.
Submissions should include an abstract of no more than 400 words and a
program summary of no more than 50 words.
-Poster Presentations: to be displayed for a 2-hour block of time. Posters
should meet basic size and design specifications to be supplied by the SLRF
conference organizers.
